About the Role

As a Geotechnical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of challenging infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, lead technical analysis and design, and mentor junior engineers. We value both technical depth and practical site experience, offering direct mentorship and a clear pathway to Chartership if not already achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ground models and determine geotechnical parameters for a range of projects.
  • Design geotechnical structures including piles, foundations, retaining walls, ground anchors, soil nails, and reinforced soil slopes and walls.
  • Conduct ground movement assessments and settlement analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of geotechnical engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Specify and interpret geotechnical investigations, including in situ and laboratory testing.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, drawings, and models using advanced software tools.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics and soil/structure interaction.
  • In-depth knowledge of deep and shallow foundation design, slope stability, and retaining structures.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Plaxis 2d/3d, Oasys Pile, Alp, PDisp, AdSec, ADC, Rocscience Slide, WALLAP, AutoCAD, and Excel.
  • Experience with numerical modelling software is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes and British Standards (e.g., BS EN 1997, BS8002, BS8004, BS8006, BS8081).
  • Thorough understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical testing.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive, inquisitive approach to technical challenges.
  • Experience in project leadership is highly valued.
