We were also nominated for UK Project with a Geotechnical Value of between £1M and £3M and our Senior Engineer Iñigo Garmendia Odriozola was nominated for the Rising Star Award.
Ground Investigation Project of the Year – Gomm Valley
Gomm Valley near High Wycombe is a greenfield site designated for a substantial residential housing development. The Lines of Evidence methodology developed by CGL on this project delivered a highly efficient and targeted ground investigation, provided a robust ground model de-risking the site saving the Client both considerable time and money for their scheme.
The judges said “This was a very professionally presented project, which stood out for convincing the client to invest in a bespoke phased approach that used site-wide remote sensing and sound geological understanding to develop a high-quality model, allowing a cost-effective sustainable ground investigation, which facilitated the optimal use of the developer’s land.”
UK Project with a Geotechnical Value of between £500k and £1M
CGL’s work at 137–147 Preston Road, Brighton is a continuation of the Observational Methods for Engineering in Chalk, honed over a decade and five years ago on previous GE Award-winning Guildford and Sutton projects respectively that was necessitated by rising steel and concrete pricing overnight following the abhorrent invasion of Ukraine. CGL at pace influenced the complete re-thinking of the sub-structure design that was delivered in real-life project time with resulting £1.5m cost savings and 500CO2 reduction.
The judges said “This project demonstrated good use of past knowledge, resulting in a sustainable design with speedy collaborative working. The monitoring of movements had been considered in detail. The economic climate presented challenges to the client, which were met in terms of value, quality, and programme savings in the solution. The company clearly demonstrated that its experience led to a fantastic cost saving solution for the client.”
